Starting counselling with Enestee
A simple guide to help you know what to expect
Starting counselling can feel like a big step, especially if you are not sure what the process looks like. At Enestee, we aim to make the route into counselling feel clear, respectful and uncomplicated from the beginning.
Our Matching process helps us understand what has brought you to Enestee, what kind of support may be most suitable, and any preferences or safety considerations that matter. From there, we recommend a suitable counsellor from our trusted team of experienced, professionally trained local counsellors.
This page explains what you can expect from counselling with Enestee, from your first enquiry through to starting sessions.
A safe, confidential space
Counselling with Enestee is built on trust, respect and confidentiality. Sessions provide a private space where you can talk freely, without judgement, and begin making sense of what you are experiencing.
Whether you are struggling with anxiety, stress, trauma, relationship difficulties, low mood, overwhelm or difficult life events, our aim is to help you access support that feels calm, professional and appropriate for your needs.
Your first step: the Matching process
Your first contact with Enestee is not about rushing you into a counselling relationship. It is about understanding what you are looking for and helping you find a suitable next step.
Our Matching process is comprehensive but uncomplicated. It helps us understand:
-
what has brought you to counselling
-
what you are finding difficult at the moment
-
what kind of support may be most suitable
-
whether face-to-face, online or telephone support may be appropriate
-
any preferences, practical needs or safety considerations that matter
-
which counsellor may be best suited to your needs
Where counselling is appropriate, we recommend a suitable counsellor from Enestee’s trusted sessional counselling team.
Experienced local counsellors
Enestee’s counselling model is built around experienced, professionally trained local counsellors. Our focus is primarily local, face-to-face counselling in Flintshire and the surrounding area, supported by online or telephone sessions where appropriate.
Enestee is not a trainee-led counselling model. We work with counsellors who bring professional training, maturity and experience to their practice, helping clients access grounded, ethical and thoughtful support.
How counselling works
Counselling with Enestee is collaborative, respectful and paced around the client. Each counsellor will have their own professional style and approach, but the wider Enestee model is grounded in safety, confidentiality, ethical practice and client need.
During counselling, you can expect:
-
A steady, supportive pace — sessions should not feel rushed or overwhelming.
-
A space to explore what matters — your counsellor will help you make sense of what you are experiencing.
-
Practical insight where helpful — this may include psychoeducation or strategies to help you understand stress, anxiety, trauma or emotional overwhelm.
-
Regular review — counselling should continue to feel useful, appropriate and aligned with your needs.
What a typical counselling session may look like
Counselling sessions usually last around 50 minutes. Each counsellor may work slightly differently, but sessions often include:
-
Check-in — how things have been since your last session.
-
Focus — exploring what feels most relevant or important.
-
Reflection — making sense of thoughts, feelings, patterns or experiences.
-
Grounding and close — ending the session in a way that feels steady and contained.
Some sessions may feel emotional; others may feel lighter, practical or reflective. All of this can be part of the counselling process.
What you do not need to worry about
People often come to counselling feeling unsure. You do not need to:
-
have everything figured out
-
know exactly what to say
-
be ready to talk about painful experiences
-
perform or make progress every week
You do not need to arrive with everything worked out. Your counsellor will help guide the conversation in a way that feels safe, respectful and manageable.
How counselling may feel
Counselling often brings relief, insight and a sense of being understood. At times, it may also feel challenging, because change can involve noticing difficult emotions, patterns or experiences.
Your counsellor will work with you at a steady pace, helping you feel supported and involved in the process.
Working towards change
Over time, counselling may help you:
-
reduce stress and anxiety
-
understand yourself more deeply
-
process emotional wounds
-
build healthier coping strategies
-
move towards a calmer, more grounded version of yourself
The aim is to help you feel more informed, more confident and less alone in what you are dealing with. Counselling should support independence, not dependency.
